A Haveli With a Story to Tell

Tucked within the narrow lanes of Udaipur's Old City — where centuries-old walls still hold the echo of royal footsteps and bougainvillea spills over courtyards in shades of pink and magenta — Kalakar Haveli is more than a place to stay. It is a living gallery: a haveli reimagined not as a relic of the past, but as a canvas for the present.

Kalakar means artist. And that is exactly what this haveli asks of everyone who walks through its doors — to see, to create, to slow down and notice the way light settles into the carved arches and terracotta tones of every room at dusk.

We have restored these walls not to freeze them in time, but to let them breathe again — with hand-painted motifs in deep maroon and ivory, carved mehrab-style arches, warm terracotta accents, and peacock detailing that nods to Mewar's royal legacy at every turn.

This is heritage, but never behind glass.

Every room is a hand-finished space — mehrab arches painted above the bed, motifs traced across the ceiling, and stained-glass jharokhas that scatter coloured light across the floor.

Lake Pichola, the City Palace, and a cup of chai.

Climb to the top of Kalakar Haveli and the old city opens up around you — the City Palace on one side, the waters of Lake Pichola on the other. It is the thing our guests mention most: a full 360° view over Udaipur, at its best at sunrise and again as the sun goes down.

Start the day here with chai, or stay on into the evening as the lights come on across the lake. Ask us about meals on the terrace when you book.
